Snowboarding looks like such an easy sport when you watch the pros. Now, actually trying to do it is much more harder than it looks. I have always wanted to try snowboarding, but just never had the chance. So the chance came this past weekend and boy was it a journey. I have lived in California my whole life (27 years) and have only been up to the mountains a handful of times. Besides this past weekend, the last time I had went to the mountains was when I was 10. So ya, its been a while!
A friend and I decided we both wanted to try snowboarding for the first time. Over $800 was spent on one trip to Sports Chalet for snowboarding gear, which only included a pair of jackets and pants. Yes, yes, I know, crazy, we were sober when we did it, so no excuses, just crazy! Although, I did have a blast taking lessons and sitting on my booty in the snow the majority of the time. Not to mention, it was raining while we were boarding. It may have not been so bad, if it were not raining, I think it snowing would have been better weather. Although, I must say we were kept dry for a while even considering the rain. Apparently, boarding gear is ranked by numbers, usually starting off at 5,000, the higher the numbers the better and it seemed to go in incredments of 5,000. We had gear that was 10,000 and it kept us pretty dry. So make sure to get gear that have the numbers 10,000 or more. Anyways, back to my story, towards the end of the lessons I start to get the hang of it but I kept thinking that i was going to go tumbling down the very little slope, so was not as daring as I thought I would be. The experience was very fun, I just wish I was better at it. I will defiantly we going back, just not sure when. I know, practice makes perfect. We just have to see if we can find the time to head back up to the mountains to try again. If not, then we may need to be sporting our snowboard attire around Los Angeles to get our moneys worth.
