I am a cheese lover to the max. I don’t think there is a type of cheese out there that I will or do not like. A friend decided to take me to The Melting Pot because of my love for cheese, it is a place that serves fondue. I am from the Los Angeles area, so the closest one to me is in Pasadena, CA. We went to old town Pasadena around 9pm and when we walked in there was a lady (blonde) at the front desk. She took our name and told us that the wait was going to be about 45 minutes. We decided to wait in the bar area and figured we can get a couple drinks before dinner. The front lady warned us that if we sit in the bar we are not going to be able to order food, we would only be able to get fondue and drinks. We were fine with that, we figured we can eat the cheese fondue for appetizer.
We sit in the bar area and wait a few minutes before the server came up to us. When the server came up to us he seemed as though he was scared to look us in the eyes. I thought okay, well maybe he is shy. He continued to act weird, such as not being attentive to us or just check up on us to see if we needed anything. He was also just very doo ta doo, if you know what i mean (smoking on some type of herb on his break). He had brought us menus for the cheese fondue, but never came back to take our order. He took about 30 minutes to come back to our table and ask us if we wanted another drink (keep in mind he never asked us what fondue we wanted to order), but only after the manager pointed our way, as if he instructed him to check on us. By then we no longer wanted the fondue because we would be seated soon.
This brings us to find the person that our bartender was smoking with….the front receptionist lady…goodness. She lived up to the blonde standards. We went up to her after an hour to check on when we were going to be seated and she had no recollection of ever seeing us or writing our names down. She then kept referring to herself in the third person….very weird.
Anyways, after an hour and five minutes we were seated, to only have to wait another 15 minutes for the waiter to attend to us. At that point, I had had enough. I went up to the manager and finally complained. He came and helped us and apologized and such as a manager normally does. When our waiter finally came, he too looked as if he was busy doing something in the back with the other two workers. Needless to say, We were finally eating about 1100pm. So overall this was a 2 hours experience on a day that they were moderately busy…I don’t think I will be going back there any time soon.
Would totally recommend buying a fondue set, rather then going to The Melting Pot in Pasadena.
